The club will finally close after it’s new year celebrations. An all area NYE day & night festival named ‘Goodbye Sweetheart’ will see the venue off in style. As always for The Cause’s bigger shows, the club are keeping who’s playing very close to their chests, but expect some mega surprise guests, their residents and close friends and family. The final few days will see four huge full venue parties and a full weekend of New Year's Celebrations will mark the closure of what has become a London institution for clubbing. Listings HERE. The club’s infamous Tribes also returns for a HUGE closing party on September 11th with KiNK live, Optimo, Ben Sims b2b Kirk Degiorgio, DJ Deep, Alienata, Vale Budino (Cocktail D’Amore), Kolter, Ethel and over 20 other artists across the full venue.
Sadly, The Cause was always a temporary project. Originally started as a one room 400 capacity club in April 2018, the space was founded with a heavy focus on community and supporting mental health. Fast forward over three and a half years later and the club have raised over £150,000 for charity, had over 220,000 revellers through the door and now command over 60 acts performing on one night.
The Cause now operates the full complex at Ashley House with up to seven indoor and three outdoor dancing spaces, with several recent parties sprawling all areas for up to 20 hours, pioneering extended hours clubbing once more for London.
Stuart Glen, co-founder of The Cause says “Not in our wildest dreams did we ever believe The Cause would have achieved so much in our time at Ashley Road. The community that surrounds our club is like nothing else in the country, we’ve developed several grass roots artists and promoters, raised a huge amount for charity and created what many people constantly tell me is the best club in London. There really is nowhere like it right now and as sad as I am to see it go, I’m much more thankful that we actually made it happen. Big love to everyone that played their part in this”
Eugene Wild, co-founder of The Cause says "The space has grown over the last 3 and half years to the beast it is now. We never stopped moving forward, always trying to improve the experience of our parties and the offer for our punters. Somehow, we’ve managed to go from a 400 capacity intimate club to what is basically a mini festival site without ever losing the intimacy and home grown vibe, selling out numerous day and night parties that will be remembered forever."
Despite consistent challenges, the team behind The Cause has never stopped evolving, with various off-shoot projects taking over The Cause and multiple other sites on Ashley Road. The socially distanced project Costa Del Tottenham was heavily featured in the media for being at the forefront of clubbing during the pandemic, leading the light and providing connection during difficult times.
Over the years the likes of Bicep, Four Tet, Jamie xx, Daniel Avery, HAAi, Sherelle, Saoirse and many more have all donated their time and fees to assist fundraising at the venue.
Deborah King, Head of Business Development for Mind in Haringey states “The Cause have been instrumental to our operations over the last few years raising over £50K of vital funding allowing us to maintain and ensure our building, projects and services are sustainable and enabling us to offer vital support to those in the Borough that need mental health and wellbeing support.”
The club will be closing due to increased pressure associated with a changing landscape of the road it’s situated on, now towered by residential apartments. The Cause is bowing out on its own terms with some mega parties to see the space off in style.
From everyone at The Cause this is goodbye.
